Christian Holliday

Burpham’s Conservative Campaigner

Christian served as Ward Councillor for Burpham on Guildford Borough Council between May 2011 and May 2019. "Burpham continues to face many challenges in the coming years and I look forward to continuing to assist residents where possible."

Gas Works impacts are not acceptable

Following complaints from local residents I have been liaising with officers at Surrey County Council over the impact of the ongoing gas works in the Coltsfoot Drive area.

Whilst utility companies can undertake necessary works, they are expected to adhere to certain standards and must restore the affected land to a satisfactory state.

Following my communication, an officer from Surrey County Councillor has now carried out an inspection of these works and filed a report. The relevant standards were not met by Southern Gas networks in this instance. As a result officers will be liaising more closely with the utility company to find a solution to the ongoing problems.

Canvassing in Burpham

As a local Councillor I regularly undertake door-to-door canvassing sessions to talk to people about their concerns. My colleague Cllr Graham Ellwood, who represents Burpham and Merrow (Guildford East Division) on Surrey County Council, was canvassing with the team this morning. Local issues raised by residents this morning included changes to the bus routes through Burpham and the future of the Green Man pub site. Burpham Neighbourhood Forum in business!

I am pleased to report that Guildford Borough Council has today formally designated the Burpham Neighbourhood Forum and Area (The Area being the Ward boundary of Burpham).

Neighbourhood Planning is a flagship Conservative Policy that will provide residents in Burpham with the power to plan for the future of their area. If you are not involved already please visit the Burpham Community Association website for more information. Burpham and Guildford face many challenges in the coming years, particularly in relation to housing provision. If you have specific skills that you feel could help the Forum, please get on touch.
