With less than two weeks to go to the European Elections on 22nd May, Christian was pleased to welcome Marta Andreason MEP to Guildford yesterday. Marta was Chief Accountant at the European Commission and exposed the serious failings with the EUs Accounting System that made taxpayers money more vulnerable to fraud. Following her own election as an MEP in 2009 she joined the Conservative Party in 2013, representing the South East of England.

Taxpayers’ Alliance Campaigning in Guildford
Christian supported the Taxpayers’ Alliance stall on Guildford High Street today, which was manned by Burpham resident Martin Wing (pictured) and other volunteers. The Taxpayers’ Alliance was campaigning against the impacts of Stamp Duty, which can amount to many thousands of pounds on a typical Surrey property, causing great difficulties for first time buyers in particular. Saturday shoppers were very interested in the low tax message being put forward by the Alliance.
Christian welcomes Coalition for Marriage to Guildford
The Coalition for Marriage group was out and about on Guildford High Street today collecting signatures to oppose proposals to redefine marriage. Nationwide, over 644,000 people have so far signed the petition. I support the Coalition for Marriage in their aim to keep marriage as the union between a man and a woman.
The proposed change would undermine marriage – in Spain for instance the number of people getting married has fallen dramatically following redefinition. I am also concerned that once marriage has been redefined once, it could be redefined again and again. Could marriages one day contain more than two people?
Same sex couples already have equal rights in the eyes of the law under civil partnerships. No change is therefore necessary. The State should continue to give due recognition to the importance of the lifelong union between one man and one woman.
