Aldi Appeal Lodged

Following refusal of planning permission for a supermarket on the Green Man site by Guildford Borough Council May, Aldi has submitted submitted an appeal to the Secretary of State. In addition, the company has indicated it is likely to submit a slightly revised planning application to Guildford Borough Council for consideration in an attempt to overcome the reasons for refusal. Some residents may have received a leaflet from Aldi regarding their proposed changes.

At the current time the appeal has not been registered and no planning application has been received. Details of both the appeal and new planning application will be posted here when available.

Taxpayers’ Alliance Campaigning in Guildford

Christian supported the Taxpayers’ Alliance stall on Guildford High Street today, which was manned by Burpham resident Martin Wing (pictured) and other volunteers. The Taxpayers’ Alliance was campaigning against the impacts of Stamp Duty, which can amount to many thousands of pounds on a typical Surrey property, causing great difficulties for first time buyers in particular. Saturday shoppers were very interested in the low tax message being put forward by the Alliance.

Tennis Courts Improved

Improvements have been successfully carried out at the tennis courts at Sutherland Memorial Park. The resurfacing works will allow sports fans to further enjoy this already popular facility within Sutherland Memorial Park (Winner of a coveted Green Flag award). These improvements, together with the installation of the nature boardwalks (see story below) are a major enhancement to the leisure facilities on offer in Burpham this summer.
